As the Managing Director of Portfolio and Investments, Mitch manages and supports a growing portfolio of over 160 companies representing over $100M in investments deployed. During his time at Elemental, Mitch has reviewed over 1,000 applications for funding and personally led over three dozen investments totaling over $25M, with more on the horizon.

Mitch is focused on delivering first-class founder support across the portfolio and implementing new catalytic finance tools like the Development-SAFE. As a member of the leadership team, Mitch also works closely across Elemental’s communications and development teams to support fundraising efforts and successfully tell the stories of our companies’ impact.

Mitch serves as a trusted partner to our portfolio companies. Whether it’s serving as a Board Observer or being available for strategic calls, Mitch is always eager to provide his experience and perspectives to help our founders grow their businesses.

Prior to Elemental

Mitch has spent his career both operating and supporting a variety of startups, with a perpetual focus on impact. Prior to Elemental, Mitch helped develop Atlas Capital Team, a multi-asset investment firm focused on building climate resilient communities. He previously managed 40 startups across several innovation programs at Chobani, including the Chobani Incubator and Food Tech Residency. While there, Mitch also spent time on the Sustainability team, where he saw firsthand many of the challenges and opportunities to improve our food system.

Before Chobani, Mitch spent two years living in Detroit as a Venture for America Fellow. In Detroit, Mitch worked closely with a special adviser to the Mayor to develop entrepreneurship programs to kickstart economic activity and support local business owners. He dove into the startup world, operating an early stage fintech company as one of only a few employees, where he focused on product development and marketing.

Mitch holds an MS in Sustainability Management from Columbia University and a BA in Political Science from Duke University.

Outside of the office

As an avid New York Knicks fan (despite living in San Francisco), Mitch is always eager to talk shop on all things NBA. He also loves any opportunity to go hiking and camping, cook a big Sunday dinner, or settle into a cozy chair with a sci-fi / fantasy novel.
