Mike helps drive Elemental’s mission by shaping and managing the financial systems that enable the organization to invest flexibly and confidently in high-impact companies and early projects. His work strengthens accountability, enhances operational resilience, and ensures that Elemental’s catalytic capital—across the nonprofit platform and its expanding family of funds—is ready to deploy effectively to unlock projects in local communities.

Collaborating closely with program, portfolio, and investment teams, Mike defines and refines processes that support everything from capital deployment, compliance, and financial stewardship. His background leading financial strategy across diverse organizations allows him to bring a seasoned perspective and fiscal discipline to a rapidly changing environment.

Prior to Elemental

Before joining Elemental Impact, Mike served as Chief Financial Officer for St. Andrew’s Schools in Honolulu, where he supported a financial turnaround, modernizing the business office and steering the school’s budget from a significant deficit to balanced operations.

In parallel, Mike founded and operated Curtis Consulting LLC, an independent consulting firm based in Honolulu. Through Curtis Consulting, he provided strategic financial analysis, operational planning, and advisory services to nonprofits, startups, distressed businesses, and growth‑oriented organizations.

Prior to his consulting and nonprofit leadership roles, Mike spent roughly two decades in the banking industry, accruing deep experience in finance and operations — a background that now underpins his work at Elemental.

Outside of the office

Outside of work, Mike enjoys exploring Hawai‘i’s oceans and trails with friends and family, coaching and investing in entrepreneurial ventures, and staying connected to the local community through volunteer service.
