Maya Hurley-Wales

Maya joins us with deep experiences in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging as well as the Ed-Tech industry. Previously she worked on the People Team at Clever and on the Sales Team at Panorama Education. As one of the few black-identifying women within those organizations, Maya felt compelled to partner with colleagues and business leaders to identify systems, policies, and practices that contribute to feelings of inequity and exclusion. Her dedication to DEIB led her to her most recent role as a Lead DEIB Consultant at a firm called Peoplism where she partnered with organizations across various industries to ensure all people felt recognized, valued and had access to equitable opportunities at work. Maya graduated from Northwestern University with a B.A. in Sociology.

You’ll likely find Maya on a walk around her neighborhood in search of a treat (boba, brownies and ice cream are the favorites) or admiring the Redwoods in the Oakland/Berkeley Hills, hanging with friends in a park, practicing rollerblading or blasting music and playing in the backyard with her housemate’s dog, Charlie! If not outside, you can find her doing arts and crafts, dabbling on her guitar, watching all of Netflix somehow, daydreaming about traveling and searching for a cheap flight to somewhere, drinking endless cups of tea and not enough water, and Facetiming with friends and family.
