As part of the Investments & Innovation team, Maddie researches emerging technologies and market trends across food & agriculture, industrial decarbonization, and nature-based solutions to inform Elemental’s investment theses and pipeline strategy. She sources high-impact startups, conducts thorough due diligence, and supports the decision-making process for new investments with modeling analyses and more.

In addition to sourcing and diligence, Maddie also serves as a point of contact for 45+ of Elemental’s portfolio companies, working closely with founders to shape project deployments, articulate company successes, and facilitate stakeholder introductions. This includes conducting asset management via monitoring performance and tracking financial and operational risk indicators for companies from post-investment through exit. Separately, Maddie leads portfolio data collection and works to translate company-specific metrics, trends, and insights into clear and compelling narratives.

Prior to Elemental

Before joining Elemental, Maddie worked at Enel North America, where she developed utility-scale solar and wind projects across the U.S. Also at Enel, she led policy and regulatory engagement for the company’s EV charging division, working closely with states, utilities, and industry coalitions. Maddie served as co-chair of Enel’s Women EmPower employee resource group. Prior to Enel, she was at the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES), where she worked with C2ES’s Business Council on corporate sustainability strategy development. Earlier in her career, she conducted field research in Mongolia on the country’s renewable energy transition as a Fulbright Scholar, interviewing government officials and community members to examine renewables deployment and barriers to adoption. Maddie holds a degree in international relations with a focus on climate policy from Claremont McKenna College.

Outside of the office

Maddie can be found outside undertaking any one of multiple seasonally-appropriate activities du jour, whether trail running, skiing, or cycling. Closer to her home of Boulder, CO, Maddie enjoys neighborhood strolls punctuated by podcasts (she is always eager for recommendations) or finding a new spot for decaf cappuccinos.
