As Senior Director, Investments and Innovation, Gabriel leads the transportation, energy, built environment, and water portfolios, supporting more than 75 companies across those verticals. In addition to pipeline development and due diligence, he has directly overseen more than 40 new and follow-on investments, deploying more than $30M in catalytic capital into companies like Dimensional Energy, Found Energy, Seabound, Bedrock Energy, and Forum Mobility. He has helped to co-design and manage more than 30 first-of-a-kind and early commercial projects in Africa, Europe, and North America, including deployments such as Bedrock Energy’s first geothermal deployment in Austin, TX; Noon Energy’s first commercial deployment of their long-duration energy storage solution in California; and Fervo Energy’s apprenticeship program development with SUU. He also provides coaching and support to his companies as they work through various strategic challenges as well as introductions resulting in tens of millions of dollars of coinvestment from leading investors. His diverse background spanning multiple startups gives him unique insights into the challenges of building an early-stage company as well as a strong network from which to draw potential partners and ideas. Similarly, his operational roles in past companies give him extensive on-the-ground experience developing local partnerships, which provides key insights into successful project deployment.

Gabriel is active in the global climate tech ecosystem, regularly engaging with catalytic investors and capital providers worldwide. Gabriel is a board observer for Dimensional Energy, Artyc PBC, Mythos AI, Found Energy, and Kelvin, and previously served for Forum Mobility, Chargerhelp!, and Nuventura.

Prior to Elemental

Gabriel has centered his career on impact, largely by working for and in startups. He has the unique distinction of having worked for three different micromobility companies, including being on the founding team as the first government relations hire at Lime, and has also worked in microtransit and in car sharing. He also focused on human-centric innovation at Frog Design, built his own social innovation consultancy, created and closed a company that used crowdfunding to help small businesses retrofit for energy efficiency, and founded and ran Seattle Greendrinks.

He has a bachelor’s degree from Luther College and Master’s degrees in both Public Affairs and Applied International Studies, both with a focus on environmental management, from the University of Washington. He also has a certificate on Clean and Equitable Energy Development from Yale School of the Environment. Gabriel was featured as one of the “Seattle 100” most influential people and was honored to have been a 2010 recipient of the Marshall Memorial Fellowship.

Outside of the office

Ever curious, Gabriel loves traveling, connecting with people, eating and drinking delicious things (ideally while traveling and meeting interesting people), reading, bicycling, playing ultimate frisbee, snowboarding, making and listening to music, and doing fun things outdoors with his family.
