To close out 2017, the four mayors of Hawaii set a goal of 100% renewable ground transportation by 2045. This means we won’t be shipping oil into our ports just to move food from the farm to the dinner table. And it means that when we get on the bus to go to work, our ride won’t pollute the air we breathe.
Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell and I co-authored an article in Fast Company about why we think the goal is important, and the ingredients needed to make it a reality. I hope you can take two minutes to read it and an extra 30 seconds to share it!
Hawaii is 2nd in the nation in electric vehicles sales per capita and eager for new mobility solutions. Despite that, fossil fuel use in ground transportation continues to grow. It accounts for over one-fourth of the state’s imported fossil fuel consumption and therefore a quarter of our greenhouse gas emissions.
At Elemental Excelerator, we are actively seeking mobility companies (stages Seed to Series C). If you or someone you know has a solution that can help Hawaii realize 100% renewable transportation, apply here or a refer a company here.
As master navigator Nainoa Thompson said at the announcement, “Hōkūleʻa’s voyage around the world was dangerous, but the risk of inaction outweighed the risk of the voyage.”
We wish you a happy holiday season and a healthy, action-packed 2018!
Cheers,
Dawn
